Youth Massage Therapy: Nurturing Growing Bodies (15yrs and under)

As someone who experienced the benefits of massage therapy from a very young age, I know first hand the deep benefit of offering therapeutic touch to growing bodies. Massage therapy helps young individuals develop greater body awareness, release physical tension and alleviate soreness caused by:

  • sports & dance

  • school posture

  • homework and academic pressures

  • Social life stresses.

By promoting relaxation and ease, massage therapy supports overall well-being and empowers growing bodies to thrive. Please note that children aged 15 and under require parental signature to receive treatment.

Prices below are for youth 15 and under:

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release works with light and deep tissue pressure, to target the myofascia, a web of connective tissue surrounding muscles, individual fibres, groups of muscles, bones and organs. This intricate system supports movement, by increasing and maintaining the slide and glide between muscles. When healthy, the fascia is well hydrated and maintained through movement, when unhealthy, it can get bound up and have layers of adhesions contributing to chronic pain. Regular activities like dance, yoga, biking, and Thai chi, help maintain fascial health, but a sedentary lifestyle can lead to stagnation, stiffness, and thickening causing pain and hindering movement.

Through sustained pressure without oil or lotion, MFR relieves tension and restrictions in the fascia, promoting relaxation, relieving pain and inflammation, and restoring range of motion. Expect sensations of slow stretching, warmth, and gentle unwinding as the fascia releases.

Myofascial work can be highly effective in making lasting changes to alleviate conditions like scar tissue, chronic pain, adhesions, and limited mobility, allowing for improved flexibility and overall wellbing. I often begin treatments with myofascial release, but can also give a full treatment focussed solely on this modality. I also offer a series of 10 treatments where each consecutive treatment, we work to unwind a different fascial line in your body. This is a powerful way to systematically rebalance the fascial system of your whole body.

Abdominal Massage

Abdominal massage combines gentle Swedish techniques to promote motility of the colon, compressions and rocking to support organ detoxification, and deep abdominal psoas muscle release to support alignment of the hips. This massage will encourage deep breathing to release tension and bring about a sense of more space in your GI tract, where often emotions and tension is stored.

In each treatment I use various techniques to release tension, stagnation, and blockages in the abdominal organs, muscles, and connective tissue. This helps to:

  • Improve digestion and gut health

  • Support fascial release and improve well-being

  • Promote relaxation and reduce stress

Your treatment will include gentle, intuitive abdominal massage, illiopsoas release, and support for colon motility, digestive well-being, and release of fascial restrictions. Please note that abdominal work can be sensitive and sometimes emotional; fasting for 2 hours before a treatment is recommended to enhance your experience.

Craniosacral Informed Touch

Craniosacral informed touch is a gentle, non-invasive, and deeply relaxing approach that nurtures the body's natural healing processes. By subtly working with the soft tissues and fluids that surround the brain and spinal cord, this soothing therapy can help calm the nervous system, ease tension, and promote a profound sense of balance and well-being. It's an invitation to unwind, let go, and allow your body to find its natural harmony. Although I have yet to do my full Biodynamic or Upledgers Craniosacral Therapy training, I have learned in RMT school an introduction to craniosacral therapy, as well as read about craniosacral therapy theory, received craniosacral therapy and intuitively embody craniosacral informed touch.
