Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a Registered Massage Therapist?

Yes, I am a Registered Massage Therapist, in British Columbia. I completed the 3000 hour Massage Therapy training at Kootenay Columbia Colege of Integrated Health Sciences in Nelson BC, in 2022. I also worked offering massage professionally since 2012. This means that I am a Regulated Health Professional and you can upload your receipts to your insurance provider for re-imbursement and for taxes.

Where are you located?

I have an office space at 518 Lake St. Rm 203 upstairs. Please contact me to book, as opposed to just showing up as the waiting room door is locked when we are in treatments.

How often should I come in for treatment?

It really depends on your goals and our agreed upon treatment plan, which we can discuss in your first appointment. If you are dealing with a specific pain pattern or injury or scar tissue that you would like to resolve fully a series of 10-20 treatments every week is ideal to make sustained tissue changes and progress. If you are simply using massage as self care, and nervous system regulation every 2-3 weeks or once a month is fine, depending on your personal needs and capacity.

Why do you suggest Home Care every treatment?

Sustained changes occur 50% due to the massage therapy treatment and 50% due to your Home care activities. What has taken a lifetime to pattern into the body needs your engaged activities to change, or adjust. This could include stretching or strengthening activities I give as daily home care. I do my best to keep Homecare to 3 minutes a day, so that it is very manageable. I find this way, clients actually do the homeware more often than not, and consistency is key to making lasting change.

Why do you do Assessments before treatment?

Assessments help me to understand exactly where restrictions lie, if there is nerve involvement, or what ranges of movement are limited, and therefore allows me treat you safely and effectively. The more regularly that you come in for treatment, the quicker these assessments often become, as we get to know your areas of maintenance and how to best support your body in general.

Do you do Deep Tissue?

Yes, I do deep tissue Swedish techniques. I also do deep fascial unwinds, and sometimes very light touch, depending on what your tissues are telling me, and guiding me to do to best support our agreed upon goals.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a system in the body that connects all parts of the body. It wraps and surrounds muscle cells, individual muscles, and all muscle groups, as well as wraps and suspends organs, and groups of organs. It is kind of like slippery bags within bags, that are there to help the slide and glide during movement. When healthy and hydrated this fascia is smooth, viscose and has very little restrictions. When too sedentary or after injury fascia can solidify causing adhesions and contributing to chronic pain. Fascia responds well to slow sustained pressure, warmth, stretch, bowing and bending.
